Planning Drawing
These include survey maps and diagrams and town scape
drawings.
Survey maps and
diagrams
Survey maps and diagrams generally show existing topography,
buildings, communication lines and other features of the site. This is mainly
prepared by surveyors.
Town scape Drawings
These are mainly prepared by planners (urban and regional,
town and country planners) for the design and development studies. These
drawings are mostly prepared from survey maps. They can be made in a variety of
techniques according to the subject or scene to be depicted and the purpose of
the illustration.
The scales are often
small and minor slips can be serious. Therefore, the draftsmanship must be
precise.
Measured Drawings
They are scale drawings drawn out from carefully taken
measurement of existing buildings or structures. Such buildings or structures
could be of historical interest, architectural merit or alterations, addition (renovations)
are being proposed.
Steps
Diagrammatic sketches of the buildings are first made and
necessary measurement marked on them. Scale drawings are later made out from
this.
*Accuracy is VERY, VERY essential.
*Orientation and well-arranged descriptive notes are also very
essential.
Landscape Drawings
Landscaping includes all works in connection with the
outdoor environment from conservation and management of regional areas to the
layout and planting of small spaces between buildings.
A landscape plan therefore shows types and location of
vegetation for an area. These are related to the contour (topography) of the
land and the position of the building.
In a landscaping working drawing therefore, types and
location of all trees, shrubs, flowers, hedges, ground cover and proposed
changes in the existing contour of the land to enhance the appearance and
function of the site are indicated.
These drawings are prepared by the landscape architect.
*The landscaping
working drawings may be less exact, but reasonable accuracy is important when
setting them out from maps or surveys.
Specialist Engineering Drawing
These include structural, electrical and mechanical (plumbing
and air-conditioning). Engineering drawings are prepared by specialist
engineers in the relevant fields. They are mainly prepared from architects
working drawings.
In the case of very small projects, they are often combined
in the architects working drawing. In large projects however, due to the
complexity of construction, multiplicity of lines and lettering, confusion and
errors are avoided by preparing them separately to enable professional
information to be quickly and clearly conveyed.
